Classy Speidel Lion and Unicorn Watch Case: 1940's by TheBeadFeed

Beautiful lion and unicorn design on outside and inside of box.

The Lion and the Unicorn design is born from British history, when the Scottish and English kingdoms were united in the early 1600's and a new coat of arms was made combining animals from both countries' coat-of-arms: the lion from Britian and the unicorn from Scotland. How this relates to Speidel, I am unsure!

Measurements: 6 1/2" x 4 3/4" wide ---- 9" wide when fully opened.

I do not know what the material is. I have seen it described as sculpted celluloid, bakelite and hard plastic. Who's right? I don't know. :^)

Made by the Braun-Crystal Mfg. Co. in the 1940's as a purchase presentation case for the Speidel "Sir Galahad" watch. The image shows a lion, unicorn, knight's armor head piece and the belt symbol of the Order of the Garter.

The Order of the Garter is the highest order of chivalry in England and of the UK. So, I assume the design is intended to denote class.

Condition: No damage. Original burgundy velvet in good condition. On the inside I think it is missing two small metal clips where the slits are in the velvet. It closes and latches shut nicely. On the back is the remnant of a price sticker.

Made in an era when design presentation was esteemed.
